Andereya
Before the awards, TV series, and international collaborations, there was Andereya—the 2019 debut album by roots artist Andereya Baguma. Marking the very first full-length album produced by Joses Arins Emanzi at Pearl Rhythm Productions, this project laid the spiritual and acoustic foundation for everything Mulika Studios stands on today. Tasked with producing a broke but immensely talented recent graduate, Joses leaned on his raw instinct to reject heavy electronic trends and instead present Andereya to the world simply as "the boy with his guitar." The resulting masterpiece didn't just launch a successful musical career; it forged a lifelong brotherhood and defined our core philosophy: stripping away the noise to let the artist's true soul shine through.

The Case Study
The Creative Challenge: Defining a New Sonic Identity Fresh out of the Department of Performing Arts at Makerere University, Andereya Baguma was an award-winning songwriter armed with nothing but immense passion and a single acoustic guitar. When legendary producer Jude Mugerwa handed the project over to Joses, both the producer and the artist were at the absolute beginning of their professional journeys. The challenge lay in capturing a complex creative identity. Andereya's style was a rich, boiling pot of influences: traditional Ugandan Kadongo Kamu, soulful melodies, his Christian roots, and his academic music background. To capture this without cluttering the music required massive restraint. The temptation for a young producer is often to over-produce and over-embellish; Joses had to fight that urge entirely to ensure listeners could connect intimately with Andereya's storytelling and lyrics. The Mulika Approach & Solution Before a single microphone was turned on, Joses implemented what would become his signature studio rule: talking extensively with the artist until he captured their exact spiritual frequency. Deciding that simplicity was the ultimate form of premium production, Joses engineered a highly minimalist, fully acoustic landscape. Working through long studio sessions where the currency wasn't money but raw creative drive and trust, Joses built the entire album around the warm, breathing dynamics of the acoustic guitar. By stripping the arrangements down to their absolute bare essentials, he gave the hybrid genres space to breathe, setting an elite production blueprint that he would later mirror years later on international cross-cultural projects like the Conversations album. The Results & Impact The Andereya album was a profound success, instantly introducing a unique, deeply authentic voice to the East African roots music scene. For Joses, it was a definitive proof of concept that his natural instinct for reading artists was correct. More than just a successful portfolio credit, this project was a masterclass in mentorship and community. It transformed a standard studio gig into a lifelong brotherhood, setting the cultural standard for Mulika Studios: we don't just process clients; we build artistic families, figure out life together, and protect the raw, unfiltered truth of Ugandan music.
